What We Do

Voltaire scholarship

Since 2007, the Voltaire Fellowship has supported young French and German scientists who are planning a study or research stay at a university or institution in the neighboring country.

The Toepfer Foundation awards this scholarship once a year in cooperation with the Académie de Berlin, which proposes the scholarship holders. Therefore, applications can only be made directly to the Académie de Berlin.

The grant amounts to 1,200 euros per month. The duration of the sponsorship is up to one year.

The Académie de Berlin was founded on June 29, 2006, with the aim of promoting exchange between Germany and France and, in particular, French language and culture in Germany. Its members include Thomas W. Gaehtgens, Detlev Ganten, Wolfgang Lepenies, Jobst Plog, Volker Schlöndorff, Peter Scholl-Latour, Gesine Schwan, Alice Schwarzer, Spiros Simitis, Patrick Süskind and Christina Weiss. Richard von Weizäcker was honorary president of the Académie, Ulrich Wickert was appointed secretary for life.
